About the Play

Musical. Large, flexible cast of 30+.  About 95 minutes.  Suitable for middle school and up.   Unit or multiple sets.  Because of the size of the musical score in PDF format, while you will receive a perusal copy of the script, a download link to the score will be sent separately upon request.

Adapted from Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking Glass This play is still awaiting its first fully-staged production, and the playwright/composer is eager to work closely with the lucky producer who first takes it on.  First performance:  $90 (this includes permission to make copies of the script/score as necessary for your production).  Each additional performance:  $65.  Professional rights should be negotiated directly with YouthPLAYS at
info@youthplays.com.

Prefer to print your perusal script?  YouthPLAYS is happy to provide printable PDF files of our plays for customers who would prefer to evaluate material offline.  Just click the Place an Order button above and select the Printable Perusal option.  A printable copy of this play is $10.  Our non-printable perusals will, of course, continue to be free.

Synopsis

All the favorite characters and 13 original songs make this a fun night out for the audience and an exciting challenge for young performers. Follow Alice as she wonders, and then investigates, what life is like on the other side of the looking glass. Is it more exciting? Will she be more important? Alice meets a host of colorful characters, including Humpty Dumpty, the White Knight, Tweedle Dee and Tweedly Dum, and a Lion and a Unicorn. She even briefly becomes Queen. Still, in the end she comes to realize that as exotic as it might be, the "other side" is no substitute for home. This is a big play, but it need not be daunting. The settings and costumes can be as elaborate as the creativity of your crew can make them, but they can also work more simply. The music is intended for young voices (Alice is the most challenging) and is fun, upbeat and as quirky as the lyrics, many of which are adapted directly from Carroll's poems.
